New Millennium’s Genesis Business Operating Environment software provides the basis for affordable and adaptable enterprise software for businesses, organizations, and corporate workgroups in the US$5 to US$40 million revenue/budget range (and smaller companies can benefit significantly, too). Genesis is scalable, is designed for LAN and WAN application and Internet remote access, and is licensed with open code for easy customizability.
Genesis Business Operating Environment performs key operations and transaction functions for most business models:
- Elaborate contact and prospect linking and management,
- Shared appointment and resource calendaring
- Document management and assembly
- Inventory tracking, management, and valuation
- Component assembly in manufacturing
- Robust and convenient time tracking and billing
- Job costing and tracking
- Estimate, sales order, and project creation and management
- Purchase order and invoice creation
- Transaction audit trails
- Many productivity features to provide a complete go-to package
- Integral e-commerce Web Shopping Cart solution
- Complete double-entry accrual-basis accounting with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, and financial statements.
Genesis Business Operating Environment uniquely provides both transaction (goods sales and service billing) and task-management information about a project, as both evolve in parallel. This is all linked in one stable information matrix that promotes effective information distribution throughout a user company, reducing busywork, increasing productivity, and tactically improving market responsiveness and profitability. One never enters data more than once, and there is no import-export of data between different software packages.
Genesis Business Metrics (a service and software upgrade that includes Genesis Business Operating Environment) uniquely provides sophisticated decision-support systems through advanced management tools to strategically enhance your profitability:
- Knowledge management
- Workflow optimization
- Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics
- Business Process Modeling with Status Stages
- Sophisticated real-time financial analysis with the Financial Scoreboard
New Millennium provides the education and training for our clients to fully realize the benefits of these tools. Combined with New Millennium’s strategic consulting, Genesis is the only solution of its kind.
Genesis is designed to provide a reliable mission-critical environment that applies sound business principles and assures secure data. Genesis is not intended to be an out-of-the-box application — its users are too diverse for that, and its effects are too pervasive. It has been designed to provide a unique kind of functional adaptability so it can be used in different business-model situations with a minimum of additional customization; this is particularly valuable for specialized businesses in industries too small to support vertical-industry software, where Genesis can provide a dramatic competitive advantage. Genesis is most pre-adapted for service business and value-added resellers. Once in use, Genesis’ adaptability continues to accommodate changes in workflow and the marketplace.
Genesis has been designed to be the most powerful and cost-effective solution and method of implementation for enterprise software. Genesis implementation requires the active participation of top management (owners, Presidents, CFOs, COOs, and department heads), as well as responsible staff.
Genesis Implementation Costs
Genesis is designed to run in a network environment, and is licensed accordingly: a five-user, one-site, one-time license for the basic Genesis Business Operating Environment solution is US$16,000, and the advanced Genesis Business Metrics licenses for US$25,000 (US$9,000 as an upgrade to Genesis Business Operating Environment). Additional user seats are US$500 each (licensed in units of five). A five-user license for Genesis Accounting alone (for integration with existing non-Genesis FileMaker transaction solutions) is US$5,000, and for Genesis Contacts alone is US$4000; additional seats for either are US$200 (also licensed in units of five).
Genesis has been designed to be implemented by New Millennium with its clients, and by consultants and Genesis Affiliates for their clients with support as needed from New Millennium personnel at our standard hourly billing rate, which varies between US$125 and US$175, depending on the services rendered. It requires at least 150 hours of New Millennium or Affiliate strategic planning, design, scripting, consulting, and installation time, and 300 to 500 hours of client-personnel time to implement Genesis. Extensive customization and IT infrastructure improvements add to that. The overall costs of a typical Genesis implementation are between US$60,000 and US$180,000, depending on the amount of customization required to obtain optimized workflow and reporting. This cost is a quarter (or less) of the cost of much-less-adaptable alternatives developed in other programming environments, few of which are cross-platform. A turnkey Genesis implementation (software license, consulting, and hardware) can be leased with a three-year term, dollar buyout.
Return on Investment
The return on investment for a Genesis installation is usually around 100% in the first full year of use, depending on the size of the user and the extent of disarray in the user’s prior IT and MIS systems. This is from reductions in busywork, better internal coordination, elimination of loose ends, optimizing workflow, better decision support, and improvements in the hard-to-quantify subjective quality of life for owners, managers, and workers. The gains in productivity from an investment in Genesis can dramatically increase your profits. Although not a profit center in themselves, Genesis’ operations and management tools return value far beyond any typical overhead expense.
Since our solution uses FileMaker® Pro, it is completely and transparently cross-platform on Macintosh OS 8/9/X and Windows 95/98/NT/Me/2000 (we prefer and recommend Macintosh because the overall TCO cost to their users is dramatically lower). UNIX operability is expected early in 2002.
FileMaker Pro is a mature standards-based relational database environment, with ODBC, JDBC, and XML interoperability with smallframe and mainframe information systems. Beyond the limits defined by FileMaker Pro itself (250 concurrent users) one need have no fear about scalability or speed: Genesis contains two modules with over 70,000 records, and finds are almost instantaneous. Appropriate infrastructure (Servers, CPU speeds, LANs, Internet connectivity, etc) is important for performance, but the single greatest factor is database design, where we excel. If a user has FileMaker skills already in-house, this is an opportunity to use and advance them. New Millennium is a FileMaker Solutions Alliance Partner-level member, and has been in business since 1988.
