Disbursement records either pay down Purchase liabilities (e.g., Accounts Payable) or are applied directly to one or more Accounts (e.g., One would not typically create a Purchase for a tax liability, so this would be an example of a direct Disbursement). They can also be refunds to clients.
Receipt records are cash inflows. Receipt records are either applied to Invoices (e.g., Accounts Receivable) or are applied directly to one or more Accounts (e.g., One would not typically create an Invoice for a tax refund, so this would be an example of a direct Receipt). They can also be refunds from vendors.
