UA's Engineering Change Management functionality allows your engineers and scientists to modify a BOM, but preserve the original BOM specifics. This allows financial managers to study the effects of changes in design on the cost of production.
A UA BOM is much more than a simple listing of materials. Instead, it can hold any number of objects that define how something is produced. Quality Control plans, textual information, drawings, schematics, etc., can be represented in the BOM. The BOM also carries the Fixed Key Date, which represents the date this BOM will become effective.
Organizationally, the UA BOM can contain an unlimited number of levels for easier visualization of the production process. Each Material added to the BOM can be directed as MAKE or BUY. MAKE items are produced, while BUY items are requisitioned. Once a BOM is added to a Production Order, those items that you do not manufacture but require can be ordered from your vendors.
The UA BOM can also be a 'Bill of Anything'. The BOM can contain any other data object that exists, such as customers, vendors, invoices, etc. In this way, a BOM can serve not only as a production recipe, but a collection of anything that is pertinent to your organization.
BOMs can be added to any other UA Document, including Production Orders. It can also be used to quickly create Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, Invoices, and other documents. Basically, it becomes a template of things and used by any other document to quickly create it.
